I am curious as to why the restricted speed class dont carry sealed GPSs, To me it seems an easy way to regulate this class. Is there a reason that makes it too hard? I understand that there was two radar guns operating...But I would have thought carrying a GPS would make sense.

that quip about gps in boats jesus you brave mike i still got the knife wounds in my back from when i 1st brought this up word of advice proceed with caution,as I have noticed that they wounder why new racers are hard to find when this class has people far exceeding the speed limit or boats that arnt really family boats but go anyway to nab a eazy prize, its a shame it aint a level playing field but we live in hope and it wont stop me coming up to chc hey if sum clown wants to go put a zillion hp to go fast he can so be it but those that do stick to the rules know who we are and have a damn good tussle anyway.

Hey just to Clarify, Mad Nick played by the rules and won fair and square, and this boat is his Daily fun boat and up until this event had spent all its life with him just river boating, The motor is a stock L98 6L (supercharger removed before race).
My Comments were after the knockers started up after he won, The man won fair and square and deserves a medal for having the balls to enter in his play boat.
Hey if you have evidence of anyone exceeding the speed then now is the time to say...
This is exactly why I bought it up as there is no conferdance in the speeds of restricted class.
Dont shoot down the Dude that had the balls to give it a go in a boat that most said cant be raced.
I think you and I agree that something needs to be done with the class.......what the hell is so hard about carrying a gps???

And welcome to the forum Matt, Things just got way more interesting

I believe they tried the GPS thing in the past and the issue was that with the thumping of the boats and in the situation where they were loosing service they turned themselves off. Don't think they were as reliable as people like to think.

I guess overcast days could be an issue....but the thumping shouldnt be an issue as most of us carry them without problem

Does cloud cover effect GPS? A quick check on Google would suggest not.
    http://gpsinformation.net/gpsclouds.htm

Not to knock Mad Nicks driving skills and but isn't his boats "Whole life" as a daily fun boat, the last 4 or so months since it emerged like a butterfly from it's Harris Marine cocoon.

I can understand why some may squeal.

They used GPS in the Mataura/Oreti race last year, dont remember them having any problems. I cant see any other way of keeping the class fair

Back on topic......If you have a look at the split times (available on the commercial board) then you will see that there was some close racing and Mad Nick got through by good driving and a very reliable set up.
It would be nice if the organizers could put the speed debate to bed in R class and stop all the crap.
Hey Matt, How many races have you done? and are you racing in the next round up here?

woah jesus fellas this is not an attack on Nick at all christ any man who fits a 500hp to a shower tray and decides to race maximum respect to him however short his life expectancy is,and the drugs he must feed his navigator shud be shared round r-class.the rules are too slack for this class its quite clear we are the "fill" for the big boys to get the entry takings up,hey if we all got floorboards oars flares etc so be it i c absolutely no reason not to use gps as for loss of signal barely a prob and if affects one it will affect all, imagine 6 r-class boats all hammering along at 100kph for a whole marathon than it would be more fun than spending 2 million quid on a super thrusty big block only to have it shit after 20 min,i mean after two days racing we could all be minutes apart(excluding parkups n blowups)imagine the piss up man the bs would flow then, brilliant!it would make you want to be at the next race for sure to try beatn your mate...as for nick why is he pissn round with chev get that engine (is it the twn turbo) outa the german taxi and really got for the insanity vote

We dont agree on much, But yeah if they can nail down this speed thing then it will attract more to race in the class and stop the negative BS that always follows.
Back to my question, How may Races have you done? and are you racing up here?

typical mike response i spose humour seems to bypass some people ,ive been in an out of racing since ah er 2003 wen you were still bangin up n down the clutha, always raced in r-class ,won dart weekend in 2003 4th over all in a lexus powered alexcraft, got third in your chc stuart blanchard race 2 year ago while i lack the many hundreds of hours you have logged racing our water ways i certainly dont lack any enthusiasim, and yes i will be racing in chc as they run one of the best organised races around and a rivercraft is not a true rivercraft till it has boated the waimak.hope that all rite with you mike im looking forward to giving the new boat a floggin and r class seems to have good numbers at the mo,so see you there.

havin a go aye mike well look harder or just get the results off clark or fritz they were the ones who scrutineered me an linc hell we even came and saw you at your lair! or i could show you the trophy from norm bagrie if you have prob finding and I could send you a photo of the dart race to satisfy your spanish inquisition ,neil ross ran the event ring him,
So mike hows your results been in the last few years in the marathon circles?
here was me thinking you mite have turned a new leaf and chilled a bit everything i say is tongue in cheek and not ment to offend however you still seem to get the wrong end of the stick and is reflected in your reply either very defensive or like now trying to discredit my past exploits,it is your forum after all and u can run it how you please,
however if you have a prob with anything ive written then bring it up i explain myself we move on,not bore the punters with you an i tit for tatting

22 sept 2007 stuart blanchard cup results on the rra site plain as day and the dart race was 2003 it was ralph brown memorial but i do notice no r class boats feature in the results but can assure you there was three of us there, which provs the point that organisers see r class as a bit of a nuisance class somtimes and not worthy of being in the results, hope this satifies the harris jury of my time in racing or are we booked to go to trial after the bain trial
