Something we have been working on for some time is an engine build using the Latest generation LS 6 liter engine (L98).
We have taken a stock motor and stripped it for a mild re-build, The aim is to find out how much HP and torque can be produced on good pump gas, the aim is for just under 600hp and over 550ftlb of torque.
After a lot of research and talking to various people the decision was made to work with the top engine people in Christchurch. The engine builder is at the leading edge of of the latest technology in engine building with the latest gear that is needed to achieve the goal.

We have also Drawn on the experience of Kevin from Kelford Cams who has well and truly proven his expertise on cams and cylinder head airflow, we have worked with Kelfords before so it was a no brainer.
Kevin has produced a CUSTOM cam for this build and is as keen as we are. We are working with the top people in their field and all were as enthusiastic as ourselves and hold a firm belief that these motors are the future.

The motor is being mounted on the Dyno tomorrow where I will tune it with all their input (another advantage to these guys as that they are all really happy to work together)
    The engine specs are
    STD Block and Crank
    New Rods and Pistons
Heads ported/flowed and custom valve job..figures classified
    Valve sizes..Classified
    Camshaft..Classified
Compression ratio...Classified but will run on good pump gas
    ARP bolt set
    Double roller timing set
Intake manifold and injectors...STD (manifold may be limiting factor)
    Oil pump...Std but flowed
Sump STD (we have proved these sumps even in sprint application)
Computer...Factory (set up and tuned by us)
    Engine Loom...Harris Marine
    Fuel pump....twin MSD
Fuel rail...std but twin outlets to regulator
    Fuel Reg...Areomotive

I will get some pics of it on the dyno...we will also be trying two different size throttle bodies as well as a power run with headers and then my marine center hi-rise manifolds so we can see exactly how much we lose with the wet manifolds.......

Cool, look forward to the results. Are you talking about running it on 96?

Spent the day setting up the motor on the dyno and sorting adaptors for fuel/and exhausts......But we fired it and ran the cam in for 20min tonight and double checked everything, I have a few things to sort in the morning and then we are into it!!! 8O

Its been a busy day on the dyno....but man we are learning a HUGE amount about which combos work and which ones dont. We now know which intake manifold makes the most power and by how much. (allot) And also the difference between throttle bodies and sizes. We played with things like coil dwell and found some interesting things about how much timing to run in different areas.
Also found that the dyno loads the motors way differently in some areas to a jet,
Last thing to do is run the wet pipes on mon then back into the boat for the real test where we will see the real difference

It was cool to see my throttle body made a bit more power in the mid range (even if it was only by a small amount) 8O 8O

Yeah, It was cool to be allowed to play on a new dyno. we will tell all (well as much as we can) once we have finished....But yes it makes good power and torque
I am not trying to be evasive but some involved have invested allot in this and dont want to release too much info until we have finished...
But once we have finished I will report, I am looking forward to seeing how much we lose with the wet pipes. Now I consider my manifolds to flow as well or better than anything on the market, but who is willing to call a hp figure?????.
I have a figure in mind but post your best guess here and the winner will walk away with $50 cash, You must post here to enter

We are talking about HP only so post your best guess about how much HP we lose between the headers that we have run and the center hirise marine alloy manifolds that will be run next week

We have been testing for the last two days in the boat and have picked up 400+ rpm and the speed on the Scott pump has gone from 116km to 126km (78mph)Thats on the GPS (down stream on the mac). With two on board and 115 liters of fuel it will do 113 up stream on the Mac.
The motor is going strong but the cam will be changed as well as the intake manifold to gain the best from it, So I expect we will get to just over 80mph which is seriousally fast in this boat
Thanks to the guys that gave us a tow last night when we had a we lock up in the jet
We are going to make a custom intake manifold soon so will start another project thread soon
